Blog - Summer Solstice

Mopping up...

After the mid summer solstice celebrations are over we all leave exhausted and full of new memories and sometimes new friends. This summer we made acquaintance with a Polish gentleman who in next to no time since has become firm friends with the druids of Aes Dana. This is his video which links the Celtic spirit in Britain to that in Poland.

If you can read Polish this is his website: (www.przyszloscwprzeszlosci.info)

Debrief:

Despite some of the press suggesting that there would be potentially riots at Stonehenge as a result of the Police reducing their tolerance for antisocial behaviour, we were willing to give the new policy a chance and our support subject to it not being enforced in a disrespectful or heavy handed manner. On the day the police were brilliant and actually more friendly than I can ever remember them being before.

The following information tells an interesting story:

There were 6500 cars attending, and somewhere between 35000 and 37000 people.

There were 100 seizures of class A drugs. Many received a stiff warning but were allowed to proceed to the stones.

There were 50 arrests:

9 for being drunk and disorderly

2 for public order offences

22 for Class A possession

1 for class B drugs

4 for possession with intent to supply

4 for assault

2 drink driving

2 climbing on the stones

1 assaulting a police officer

3 for theft

Of those arrested 45 were male and 5 female

There were amnesty bins on the public side of checkpoints into which were placed Class A, Class B drugs, and knives.

The two nastiest Drugs commonly found were Ketamine and Cocaine

127 people needed first aid treatment. Of these 11 had been assaulted, 7 people needed to go to hospital.

Clearly, while people are selfish and reckless enough to attend a spiritual and cultural celebration carrying knives or class A drugs, the Police have to be firm in order to ensure public safety. They have apologised for the electric helicopter flying over the heal stone at sunrise. The Druids have thanked the police for their exemplary conduct during this operation.
