Winter Solstice 2009
21st Dec, Sunrise:
This solstice occurs at roughly 6pm on Monday 21st, however it falls after sunset and so the Druids and Pagans of the Stonehenge ‘round table’ who follow the Celtic Day (sunset to sunset) declared the sunrise on Tuesday 22nd as being the appropriate Winter Solstice for Stonehenge. Full explanation
Naturally not everyone would get to hear about this, or agree, so Frank travelled to Stonehenge this morning so that any who turned up a day early would at least have a ceremony even if this would have to be on the National Trust field rather than in the great temple.
As things developed a great number of people turned up today who consider this sunrise to be solstice and having come from as far away as New Zealand. English Heritage very kindly opened their gates to let people through and a very peaceful and pleasant time was had by all within the stones.
Frank led a simple ceremony with the focus being on the unity between spiritual people of all paths and the great changes to be anticipated over this and the following few years of great alignment. The people took a personal oath to their god/goddess to ensure peaceful transition and balance into the new period. The AWEN was chanted with energy released for awakening and peace.
22nd Dec, Sunrise:
The night leading up to the event saw snow and ice hit the south east of England,
many roads were closed, and so people who had stayed over night at Stonehenge from
the 21st were joined by those who had managed to travel in from the southwest. Naturally
the numbers attending were down from previous years. Below a photo’s sent to us by
Jill of her daughter taken on the 22nd.
