Was Jesus educated in Britain by the Druids?

A few months ago we reviewed the book ‘The Missing Years of Jesus’ by Dennis Price, archaeologist and Stonehenge expert, who researched the whereabouts of Jesus during the missing years of his life when he was aged between 12 and 30. The story is interesting enough just from the perspective that we know so little about the life of one of history’s most influential religious figures, but Price concluded that Jesus was almost certainly in Britain at that time, when we had not yet been dominated by Rome and the Druids still taught and guided our people.

The implications to both the Church, Druidical thinking and the relationship between them are profound.

Last week, several articles were published in the Daily Mail.

It seems that Dennis Price is not alone in his belief that Jesus was here. He is joined in this view by no less a person than Mr Ted Harrison, a former BBC Religious Affairs correspondent and Dr Gordon Strachan, a Church of Scotland minister.

In the Daily Mail, Ted Harrison and Dr Strachan state:

it is plausible Jesus came to further his education. The country is thought to have been at the forefront of learning 2,000 years ago, with mathematics particularly strong.

Ted Harrison, the film's director, said: 'If somebody was wanting to learn about the spirituality and thinking not just of the Jews but also the classical and Greek world he would have to come to Britain, which was the centre of learning at the time.

'Jesus was a young man curious to find out about all sorts of things.

'We know there is a huge gap in the life of Jesus between when he was born and when his ministry started.

'He would have come to learn what was being taught about astronomy and geometry which was being taught at "universities" run by druids at the time.'

Our Comment:

It is wonderful to think that one of the world’s greatest ever religious teachers may have found a home among the ancient Britons, as well as friendship and learning from our people.
