The world has voted and stonehenge is not in the top 7 :-(
We had some very worthy competitors in the top 21 and we would like to congratulate them and the final seven on their success.
All 21 finalists will benefit from having reached that level in the competition. If Stonehenge were to win a place in the final 7 it would have been against the odds, the great temple had only her simple beauty and the integrity of the Druids to speak for her. It's comparable to a beauty competition; if you enter and do not win, it does not mean that you are no longer beautiful.
This great temple of the ancients still has all of her loveliness and mystery just as she always has and we will always have this wonderful place as our sacred home from whence to honour nature.
Our ancestors built for us places of timeless magic standing tall among the greatest human achievements of all time, 1st among these (for us) is Stonehenge, our sacred home.
Only one of the original seven wonders of the world identified around 4000 years ago still stands today, the great pyramid in Egypt. A unique project to let the people of the world choose our seven wonders of today is underway, with 21 finalists including Stonehenge in the running fot the final 7 places. Voting by the internet is free, and you may vote at any time up until the close on 7th July 2007 (7-7-7)
The Druids supported the new 7 wonders project. It is virtually the first time that the whole world population has had a chance to vote on anything of collective value, that has to be a good step in the right direction. The project has raised a lot of awareness of world culture and history, which is important as the past shapes what we are, and consideration of what is inspirational to us now will shed light on how we should be directing ourselves and our creative energies looking forwards. What will our legacy be?
Stonehenge is a well known icon of mystery belonging to our most ancient past. What is less well understood about stonehenge is that its size and age are perhaps the least important of its attributes. Its design, we are just learning to understand, and seems to be a deliberate and sophisticated attempt at building in perfect harmony with the natural order. By constructing in stone the ancestors clearly intended the message of their wisdom to survive well beyond them, perhaps to reach out to us at this time when we are wondering if we too can channel our efforts towards harmony with nature before it is too late.
Stonehenge is a message from the most ancient past to the people of today "you can achieve great things when you work together, as we did, so may you"
It is a global symbol of hope!
